ISABELLA ALEXANDRA MCLENNAN

According to the University of British Columbia's Rare Books and Special Collections Library, Isabella was born in 1870 and died April 5th 1960 at the astonishing age of 90.  Like her brother Francis, Isabella was also a proud McGill alumni member.  She was regarded in her letter of passing from the McGill board of governors as ranking “high on the roster of devoted friends and benefactors of the university”(Holton).

Isabella cared for McGill’s female students at the Royal Victoria College, the school’s women only education center, which as of 2010 began a coed dormitory (McGill University).Along with this, Isabella also donated her Montreal home to further extend the capacity for women at the college. This was regarded as “one of her great contributions to the college” (Holton).

The two images displayed above are of a letter exchange between Isabella and a young man, who had discovered the McLennan family and wanted to look at their history.
